Alpha-2-Anti-Plasmin (Last Updated - 3/30/2005)

-glycoprotein
-forms stable complex with plasmin and inhibits it
-normally functions as a regulatory mechanism --> prevents clot lysis from running out of control
-max plasma levels can inhibit ~50% of max plasmin levels
-so t-PA will overwhelm alpha-2-anti-plasmin regulatory mechanism
-b/c t-PA induces plasminogen --> plasmin at ~100x the normal rate
-too much plasminogen / plasmin / t-PA will cause a systemic lytic state
